UMY Yogyakarta Researchers Show Area Expansion is often Only a Tool for Power

Jakarta, Seruu.com – Regional divisions in Indonesia are often on the agenda of several parties to gain power, triggering prolonged conflict, said researchers from Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) Tunjung Sulaksono.
“North Maluku is proof that the manipulated pemekaran ultimately leads to community conflicts, and the division of the region now seems very easy to be manipulated by certain parties,” said Tunjung Sulaksono, in Yogyakarta on Thursday (19/1/2012).
This conclusion Tunjung obtained through his research entitled “Business and Political Conflict: Case Study of North Maluku Region Expansion”.
Furthermore, he explained that if the expansion of territory with the motive of this power is allowed to happen, then the expansion of the region only increasingly miserable the people.
“Regional expansion is often coloured by conflict because it does not take into consideration the aspirations of the people.” Expansion of areas that ignore the aspirations of the community can indeed trigger prolonged conflict, “he said.
Tunjung said that regional expansion should be able to bring people closer to better public services. However, pemekaran in Indonesia is not in line with the achievement of community welfare.
“The aspirations of the people are not conveyed, but it looks as if the division of the region is for the benefit of the community, indicating that the community does not necessarily require the expansion of the region,” he said.
In fact, the structuring of the region does not provide a better service guarantee from the government.
According to him, there should be aspects that need to be included as a consideration in the expansion of the region, one of the sociological aspects of society.

So, no need to be generalised, if indeed the community has not been able. For example, when talking about the regional head election, regional expansion should not be forced to participate in elections.
“In this case, the people in the pemekaran area need to be given the time to mature politically, if necessary, there is no harm in the government being run by the daily executive first,” said Tunjung. [ms]
